Symphony of the Frogs

It’s the peak of summer down here in New Orleans, and the battle to beat back the green is on. If you don’t get what I mean, I am referring to the crazy growing vines, grass, shrubs, everything plant life. It has been raining for days it seems, summer tropical storms, so while this goes on you really can’t get out and do yard work. The warm humidity makes it feel like a greenhouse outside, and the grass is super green.

Our backyard is in transition from an old pond that we haven’t quite filled in yet, with fence that is overgrown with vines that needs to go (new fence soon). It’s a mess in that section, and right now is a bad time to think about doing anything. So, the frogs go wild. It’s like a frog theme park, and after it rains the just go nuts. Unspeakable things going on in these overgrown vines and weeds…. listen…. to the frog symphony!

Jane’s Addiction End to the Lies Video

I am so excited that one of my favorite bands, Jane’s Addiction, is putting out a brand new album this summer.

Here is their latest video, “End to the Lies”

Friday’s Life Brainstorm

Do you ever find yourself burning out on something? Like too much of one thing? But of course, and that’s where I am right now. Between my one year old daughter, ten year old dog, and the phones ringing all day I am ready for a break.

One very exciting thing that happened this week, is my husband decided to check out a craigslist ad by the Gulf Restoration Network looking for people to help campaign and defend the Gulf this summer. He had a great interview, and having worked the oil spill cleanup response last summer, it’s a perfect fit. He will start canvassing in May. Very exciting. A little political action is always great.

I’ve been meaning to head back to the Jean Lafitte National Historic Park Barataria Preserve which is not far from where I live here “on the bayou” and take some more pictures. Everyone is always seeing the oil down here still, so we will see if there are any traces of ole MC252. Maybe today will be the day. The one year anniversary is coming up….

Muffuletta Sandwich

Today we went to the French Quarter and had a couple of beers. We then decided to grab some muffuletta sandwiches from Central Grocery before we left. It was a wonderful day. :)

Hurricane Season is here

Well today is the official start of Hurricane season, June 1. They are saying the water in the gulf is at record temperatures this year, so expect lots of activity. Greeeaaat.

Here is a photo from the first named tropical storm, Agatha, that did some damage in Guatemala and Central America.

Guatemala Sinkhole

The office of Guatemala's president handed out this aerial view of a crater that opened up after Agatha hit

Hopefully, New Orleans will be spared this year.

Shopping at Wal-Mart

Well looks like a holiday weekend is upon us. Being self-employed and a work from home Mom is great and my husband and I get a jump on the weekend. I prefer to beat the weekend crowds on Friday and get it done on Thursday so I don’t have to fight the crowds and traffic. Where are we going? To the Super Wal-mart of course. LOL I know some people don’t like wally mart, but when the other stores around here are nearly twice as expensive (we saw cheeze-its for $3.98, wal-mart has them for under $2) it just doesn’t make sense to give away your money. Being self-employed really makes you look at the world differently.

Being a former vegetarian, we just started eating meat again and I look forward to buying some roast beef. Yum!
