What I learned being Vegan for a year

So how do we *really* know, on a scientific level, that plants don’t have feelings?

Like, does lettuce not feel pain? Nature is so beautiful, fruit, vegetables, a ripe red tomato. Then we just slice them up, and shove them in our mouths. Delicious. Poor veggies.

I had to stop eating a certain way for a cause. I still believe in animal rights, I still feel bad for the cows and chickens. I just realize I can’t change the world, and love things like cheese and salami. So I eat for my health now.

But so many little creatures, bugs too, die when you grow things that it’s all just really sad, no matter which way you spin it, or what you eat.

The world is a terrible, horrible place. However, I’ll keep my place here at the top of the food chain and eat lots of salad and the occasional chicken. And try not to think too much about the ugliness. It’s hard.

I also just don’t like big slabs of meat. But really, I planted a garden, and then started to feel bad at all the bugs and critters that showed up and wanted to eat everything. But overall it was fun, I just let it go when I got pregnant and haven’t picked back up.

Some vegans will kick your ass for eating a chicken wing. Gotta love their passion at least!

Friday’s Life Brainstorm

Do you ever find yourself burning out on something? Like too much of one thing? But of course, and that’s where I am right now. Between my one year old daughter, ten year old dog, and the phones ringing all day I am ready for a break.

One very exciting thing that happened this week, is my husband decided to check out a craigslist ad by the Gulf Restoration Network looking for people to help campaign and defend the Gulf this summer. He had a great interview, and having worked the oil spill cleanup response last summer, it’s a perfect fit. He will start canvassing in May. Very exciting. A little political action is always great.

I’ve been meaning to head back to the Jean Lafitte National Historic Park Barataria Preserve which is not far from where I live here “on the bayou” and take some more pictures. Everyone is always seeing the oil down here still, so we will see if there are any traces of ole MC252. Maybe today will be the day. The one year anniversary is coming up….

My New Boutique Site

I am finally getting busy on my new site, Lula’s Boutique. Launched officially with the birth of my daughter who is now 1 years old, I am officially opening it for business and getting things off the ground. More items will be added and I will be selling everything right on the site, no more art sites you have to sign up for!

Check it out so far, about 10+ items!
